CELLINA DRY GRASSLANDS SCI - AVIFAUNA

The site has a considerable importance for birdlife, particularly for the presence and size of population of national and regional level rare species, such as the Curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus), Lesser Grey Shrike (Lanius minor) and many birds of prey that exploit the poor environment of trees and unobstructed vision of the Magredi as an ideal hunting ground where it is easier to discern a possible prey. Among these, for example, the Hen Harrier (Circus cyaneus) and the Montagu's Harrier (Circus pygargus).

From a scientific point of view of particular interest is the occasional occurrence of harrier, also called Short-toed Snake Eagle  (Circaetus gallicus) and Golden eagle (Aquila chrisaetos) that, starting from behind the mountain areas, descend along the shores pushing to reach the grasslands in search of easy prey.
