CELLINA DRY GRASSLANDS SCI - LAND USE

In Magredi of Cellina SCI only a minimum area of 260 hectares is privately owned. The public part instead corresponds to about 90% of the total area and consists of the Military property from the State and regional water.

A part of the Military property in the town of Maniago has recently been given in concession to the Region to carry out redevelopment and management of dry grasslands. A portion of these surfaces require vast restoration because they are damaged from previous management.

In summary, the following main categories of land use are present in the SCI:

  • arid grasslands and steppes: 53%
  • floodplains and gravelly sands: 31%
  • intensive cereal crops (mainly corn and soybeans): 8%
  • dry heath and woods: 4%
  • fertilized lawns: 2%
  • other areas (including homes, roads, landfills, quarries and industrial sites): 2%
