The Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia is deeply involved in environmental protection through its Department for Hunting, Fishing Resources and Biodiversity of the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Food Resources, Forestry and Fishery.
The Department performs duties in protected areas and NATURA 2000 Network sites of the Region. Its institutional purpose/role is to promote the acquisition, recovery, restoration and ecological improvement of areas of special natural interest. It also puts into effect operations for gaining/improving knowledge in, cataloguing, the protection and management of natural vegetation and wildlife, and it promotes the diffusion of environmental values, of environmental education and the correct use of the environment.

It also put into effect interventions for knowledge, inventory, protection and management of natural vegetation and wildlife, and it promotes the spreading of environmental values, of the environmental education and of the natural environment correct use.
